Maths in the garden

We visited a glasshouse that produced tomatoes.

We went by bus to a nearby town,  Alexandria.

The persons responsible of greenhouse explained  to us everything  for the plants and  their crop production. We measured the heights of the plants we compared the young with older plants, We made mathematical calculations to find the proportions of fertilizers, of watering. We then calculated the selling price with the profit.

We loved it.

Maths in the garden

We tried to combine the trees and plants with mathematics.
We measured, we made calculations solved math problems.

E class (  10 – 11 years old)

Year 2 have been learning about right angles. They know that these are where 2 lines meet and they measure 90 degrees.

The children made their own right angle catcher and enjoyed looking around our school grounds to find as many right angles as possible …

OUR LITTLE GARDENS AND MORE… MATHS IN THE GARDEN

OUR LITTLE GARDENS: HOW PLANTS GROW…

Using previous lesson, this time we have the opportunity to make different experiments to see in a real situation; the cycle of plants, what plants need to live, plants in diferent environments, type of plants and what plants give us. Different experiments are carried out in different classes to see the science contents learnt. Planting different seeds, taking care of them during two weeks, observing how they grow in different soils… With this activity we can review what we have learnt in previous lessons and add English vocabulary in relation with the topic.   AFTER ONLY A WEEKEND!!!!   DIFFERENT TYPES OF SEEDS AN DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS!!! LET’S MEASURE!!!!! AMAZING THE LIFE!!!!! PLANTS FOR COOKING!!!!!! LET’S PREPARE A BIG GARDEN!!!!

Maths in the garden – Botanical garden in Poland

The smallest children went to to the botanical garden. They saw many different kinds of plants and flowers. The trip was very interesting and nice.

Maths paths in the garden -shape-

In the garden we found out that we can do shapes with our body : circle, square, rectangle, triangle and … numbers!

What fun!

Maths paths in the garden (hedgehog)

In a vegetable garden (close to our school) the farmer puts 6 zucchini files; in each row there are 4 plants. How many?

The farmer puts 10 rows of salad, in each row 4. How many will they be?

If a hedgehog eats the second row, how many seedlings will remain?
