Year 2 had a great maths lesson today; finding fractions of different quantities of sweets!
The children learnt that the bottom number of a fraction is called the denominator. They know that this tells us how many parts the whole is split into.
The children were asked to put different numbers of sweets into their bags – this was the whole.
They then had to find 1/2, 1/4, 1/3 or 1/5 of their sweets. They were then set the challenge of finding 2/3 once they had found 1/3 and 3/5 once they had found 1/5.
They all did very well and had lots of fun!
All the children said that they would like to work in a sweet shop!
