### Maths in the Street – Highlights

Take a look at some of the maths work children throughout the school have been taking part in linked to our new Erasmus Project “Maths Paths in Europe”.

This Autumn we have been doing some maths activities in the street!

### Measuring in the street – Year 4

Y4 have been learning how to convert centimetres to metres and then to metres and centimetres!

We have been measuring objects in our school grounds. We enjoyed using the longer tape measure to work out the length of the veranda!

### Data Handling – Traffic Survey – Year 2

Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed going down to the main road to complete a traffic survey. The children worked in small groups to create a tally chart of the number of different cars and vehicles that drove past us in 15 minutes. Then, back in class, the children used this data to create a bar chart.

### Fractions in the street – Year 5

We have been investigating Fractions this week! To begin our topic, we decided to look at the houses that surround our school and completed a survey on the different characteristics of them. After gathering the results we converted these into fractions and discussed the results as a class.

### Google Maps – Year 3

Year Three have been thinking about the maths we use every day, sometimes without even realising!

We used Google Maps to locate our homes and then see how far we travel to school each morning. We then used our doubling skills to work out how far we travel in a day.

Mr Kennedy then showed us how to use a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel – we had to input our travel data and using the auto sum button we would work out the total distance travelled over a week and even the school year!

Next we will produce graphs to display the data we have collected.

### Shapes in the Street – Year 2

Take a look at this short movie which shows all of the work Year 2 have done linked to shapes in the street!

### Shape Pictures – Year 2

After our shape hunt, the children in Year 2 then tried to use 2D shapes to create some pictures of things they had seen on the street. The children made houses, trucks, cars, trees, pelican crossing and a church.
